World War Two veteran, Sydnor Thompson, and his bride of 67 years, Harriette, re-enacted the famous Times Square kiss to celebrate Victory over Japan Day. The original kiss was captured in a photo. A six-foot tall statue of the kiss stands in Times Square. As the story goes, when news of Japan's surrender hit Times Square in 1945, this sailor grabbed an unsuspecting nurse and kissed her. For 90-year old Sydnor, August 14th has special meaning. (SOUNDBITE) SYDNOR THOMPSON, VETERAN, SAYING: "It means a great deal. For one thing it means that I survived." The Times Square commemoration of VJ Day kicks off a year-long effort leading up to the 70th anniversary in 2015.
