Gamescom opens to the public

Gamescom 2014, the world's largest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment, opens to the public. Sasha Salama reports.

Thousands of gamers, who converged on Cologne, Germany and waited in line for hours, finally pushed through the turnstiles to get into the world's largest trade show for interactive games and entertainment. Gamescom, now in its sixth year, is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors. These avid fans were able to play the latest version of Microsoft's gaming console, Xbox One, and check out some new games like "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare". Nintendo came up with new applications for its "Wii U" console. There's even a special area dedicated to 'Cosplay', the re-enactment of games in costumes. (SOUNDBITE) (German) DRESSED UP GAMESCOM VISITOR, MARCEL HECK, SAYING: "Just like soccer fans wear their team's jerseys we dress up as our favorite characters." (SOUNDBITE) (German) DRESSED UP GAMESCOM VISITOR, LISA LAUDA, SAYING: "I love watching animes and then re-enacting some of the characters. I just really enjoy that." Gamescom continues through Sunday, August 17th.
