Indonesian police are conducting medical checks of the two suspects connected to the death of an American woman whose body was found inside a suitcase on the resort island of Bali. 19 year-old Heather Mack was arrested with her boyfriend, 21 year old Tommy Schaefer on Wednesday (August 13) after a taxi driver found the battered body of Sheila von Wiese-Mack, Heather's mother, in a suitcase at the parking lobby of the St. Regis luxury hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali. The couple were found at a budget hotel about 1.6 km (1 mile) away from the St. Regis hotel after a day-long police search. Officials say routine health checks were being carried out on the suspects for investigation purposes. A hospital official said von Wiese-Mack had been repeatedly hit on the face and head with a blunt object. Von Wiese-Mack had worked as an editor for famed oral historian Studs Terkel and later studied with Nobel literature laureate Saul Bellow at the University of Chicago. Her husband, and Heather's father, classical music composer James Mack, died in 2006.
