SeaWorld to build bigger enclosures for killer whales

SeaWorld announces plans to nearly double the size of its killer whale tanks amid criticism over its treatment of the animals. Linda So reports.

A sneak peak of a huge undertaking at SeaWorld. Park officials unveiled plans to build bigger enclosures for its killer whales at its parks in San Diego, Florida and Texas. This after increasing criticism over its treatment of the animals. SOUNDBITE: JIM ATCHISON, CEO AND PRESIDENT OF SEAWORLD ENTERTAINMENT INC., SAYING: "We're in San Diego today because the first of those expansions will be here. When this facility is unveiled, the killer whale habitat here will have nearly double in size." San Diego's enclosure is expected to open to the public in 2018. SeaWorld also pledged $10 million in matching funds for killer whale research.
