A crime scene inside a shipping container in this British port of Tilbury -- a bulk cargo and container port.
35 people, including some children, were found inside a shipping container.
They were kicking and screaming for help when authorities opened the door to find one man dead.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ASSISTANT CHIEF OFFICER FOR EAST OF ENGLAND AMBULANCE, DANIEL GORE, SAYING:
"So 35 patients were found in the container when we first arrived this morning at just after quarter to seven. One of those patients has unfortunately been pronounced deceased at the scene, two patients with serious but not life threatening condition have gone to Basildon hospital, and a number of other patients suffering from hypothermia, dehydration have got to the London Whitechapel hospital, Southend and Basildon Hospital."
Essex police suspect organized crime was behind the stowaway death.
(SOUNDBITE)(English) SUPERINTENDENT FOR ESSEX POLICE SERVICE, TREVOR ROE, SAYING:
"You know in my view, from what we have seen so far organized crime. You know you don't end up with 35 people in a container for no reason. Somebody is behind this, we have a homicide, we need to investigate and we need to bring offenders to justice, be it in this country or any other."
Immigration authorities are assisting in the investigation, and no further details have been made public so far.
