A grand jury in Texas has indicted Governor Rick Perry of abuse of power and coercion. Julie Noce reports.

Texas Governor Rick Perry was indicted Friday by a grand jury in Texas on two counts of abuse of power and coercion over a funding veto he made last year. Special prosecutor Michael McCrum. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SPECIAL PROSECUTOR MICHAEL MCCRUM SAYING: "It basically charges that on the day of the veto, june 14th of 2013, that Governor Perry intentionally or knowingly misused the government property that had come into his custody or control. That is the money that had been approved and authorised by the legislature of the state of Texas to provide for funding of the public integrity unit . That he intentionally or knowingly misused those monies. Count two of the indictment charges him with coercion of threatening Rosemary Lehmberg in her capacity as public servant to resign or otherwise that he would veto the legislation." Perry, seen as a possible Republican candidate in the 2016 presidential race, could face a prison term if convicted.
