In Gaza, Hamas-led gunmen had a message for locals --- conspire with Israel and you will pay with your life. Masked fighters brought suspected collaborators to the main square, executing at least 18 of them before a crowd of onlookers.
Posted on a nearby wall, the mens' alleged crime: "they provided the enemy with information"
SOUNDBITE: Gaza resident Mohammed Ahmoud al-Ruz saying (Arabic):
"They are spies. They helped kill people. The jews did not know there was resistance here until these collaborators told them. We should clean our area of these people before we cleanse it of the jews. "
The executions come just a day after an Israeli air strike killed three senior Hamas commanders and were capped off by a night of targeted attacks throughout Gaza. By mid-day Friday, militants were responding with rockets. The cross-border escalation left three civilians dead in Gaza and two injured in Israel, with no sign of a let up in the fighting.
