A sea of protesters flooded Staten Island on Saturday. They're protesting the death of Eric Garner. Garner died last month after police put him in a banned chokehold. His death has become a part of a larger national debate about how U.S. police use force. The Reverend Al Sharpton could be seen surrounded by other protesters as they marched through the streets. Before the rally got underway, they gathered at churches and community centers to pray. They say change is needed. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNNAMED PROTESTER SAYING: "Our goal is to show representation and solidarity with the struggles in Staten Island." (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNNAMED PROTESTER SAYING: "Just a realization that something needs to change primarily. Something needs to change. If this many people are getting together and saying something is wrong, then maybe we need to think about it. Something's wrong." The march was also in response to the death of Michael Brown. The unarmed 18-year-old African American was shot by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri earlier this month.
