Dozens injured in California region's biggest quake in 25 years

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocks the wine country north of San Francisco, injuring dozens, damaging buildings and more. Vanessa Johnston reports.

The destruction lurks on every block in Napa. Businesses and homes suffering from the region's worst earthquake in 25 years. The 6.0 magnitude quake unleashed a rumbling that brought down brick facades in Napa's historic district, injured dozens and prompted a state of emergency. (SOUNDBITE) (English) JOHN CALLANAN, CITY OF NAPA FIRE DEPARTMENT, SAYING: "We've had in the neighborhood of, problably about 100 plus gas leaks, power lines down, medical calls are in the neighborhood of about 80 plus at this time, the Queen of the Valley hospital has been inundated with patients all related to the trauma related incidents after the earthquake." About 40,000 homes and businesses lost power in Napa and surrounding cities. Six fires broke out, including one that consumed six mobile homes. Residents in the region were jolted at 3:20 a.m. local time. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ANDRE VAN DER HEYVEN, RESIDENT AT MOBILE HOME PARK, SAYING: "Everything in the house was all over the place. Dressers. TV. All went down." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ANNALICIA SALVATORE, RESIDENT AT MOBILE HOME PARK, SAYING: "Shooken up. Very scared. This is my first earthquake actually." California, which sits along a series of seismic faults, is forecast to experience a much more powerful earthquake at some point, but scientists don't know exactly when it will come or how strong it will be.
