Thousands of anti-government demonstrators remain steadfast on the streets of Islamabad demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif step down. For the past 11 days, protesters have been camped out in front of parliament night and day. The opposition movement, led by a former cricketer Imran Khan and populist cleric Tahir ul-Qadri, is getting support from wealthy Pakistanis who provide food and water to people on the streets. Talks between the government and the opposition have remained deadlocked with neither side willing to back down. The opposition accuse Sharif of election rigging after his landslide win last year. The protests have raised concern about Pakistan's stability at a time when the government is battling a Taliban insurgency and NATO troops are withdrawing from neighbouring Afghanistan.
