After more than two weeks of often violent protests, the community of Ferguson came together in peace... to remember and celebrate the life of Michael Brown. Laid on Brown's coffin, a Cardinals cap... worn by the teenager on the day he was shot by a white policeman. Brown was unarmed. The Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis was packed with family, friends and supporters. Michael Brown's uncle, the Reverend Charles Ewing told mourners that the tragedy reverberates not just in Ferguson, but throughout the country. (SOUNDBITE) (English) MICHAEL BROWN JR. UNCLE, REVEREND CHARLES EWING SAYING: "There is a cry being made from the ground and god is hearing the vision of his slained." And then the Reverend Al Sharpton spoke, calling for change in a country he says is still racially divided. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST REVEREND AL SHARPTON SAYING: "Michael Brown does not want to be remembered for a riot. He wants to be remembered as the one who made America deal with how we're going to police in the United States." The Ferguson protests have shone a spotlight on police tactics, exposing local anger over the use of military equipment and alleged heavy-handedness. Sharpton says they've also highlighted the need for justice and racial equality. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST REVEREND AL SHARPTON SAYING: "...God will, god will make a way for his children. I've been to the end of the book, justice is going to come, justice is going to come, justice is going to come." A passionate crowd leaves the church... but with a grand jury now hearing evidence, the doors are still open to Michael Brown's case.
