U.S. government confirms death of American fighter in Syria

Officials say an American man suspected of fighting alongside Islamic State militants in Syria was killed during a fight over the weekend. Jillian Kitchener reports.

===REFEEDING WITH UPDATED RESTRICTIONS AND TYPO IN INTRO CORRECTED=== The State Department says 33 year old Douglas McAuthor McCain was fighting alongside Islamic State militants in Syria when he was killed over the weekend. McCain was identified by the US passport he was carrying when he died during a firefight in the city of Aleppo. In Syria, McCain was better known as Duale Khalid. He had joined the fight with Islamic State, having converted to Islam ten years ago. A high school friend from Minneapolis remembers him as a different person. (SOT) HE WAS SILLY, HE WAS A TRICKSTER HE WAS A CLASS CLOWN AND ALWAYS MADE EVERYONE LAUGH. The State Deparment says McCain was one an estimated 7000 foreigners fighting in Syria.
