ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)
The waves at Malibu Point in California are tumbling in, carrying dozens of surfers on overhead swells.
Officials have put in place a high-surf advisory until Friday, drawing surfers and spectators to the beach.
Local media reports that the National Weather Service has called it "the most significant southerly swell event since July 25th, 1996."
Thursday's surf comes two days after rescue officials pulled an unconscious surfer from the water. He was later pronounced dead.
