A cross continent manhunt for a 5 year old boy with a brain tumor has ended in Spain.
Brett King and his wife took their son Ashya out of a hospital last week against doctors orders.
They then drove to Spain with the rest of their family where they were later apprehended by police.
In a video posted online, King said they took their son because his doctors refused to discuss a specific cancer treatment called proton beam therapy which isn't currently available on Britian's National Health Service.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ASHYA KING'S FATHER, BRETT KING, HOLDING ASHYA WHILST SAYING:
"... we've been labelled as kidnappers, erm putting his life at risk, neglect. There's been a lot of talk about this machine. [Brett points at a machine on the bedside table next to him] As you see it's all plugged in. We've got loads of these feeds here. We've got iron supplements and we've got Calpol. As you can see there's nothing wrong with him, he's very happy actually since we took him out of hospital he's smiling a lot more. He's been very much interacting with us."
Authorities said they feared the boy would not receive the medical treatment he needed.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) ASSISTANT CHIEF CONSTABLE, CHRIS SHEAD, SAYING:
"We don't have many details on Ashya's condition at this point in time but what we do know is that he was showing no visible signs of distress. Ashya has now been taken to a hospital in Malaga. The parents have been arrested, they've been taken to a police station. There are no winners in this situation. I've said all along that this must be a terribly distressing time for Ashya's family and I stand by that now. I think it's been a dreadful period for them."
Proton beam therapy units are available in other countries, but wont' be available in the UK until 2018.
