With his cabinet meeting for the first time, Turkey's new prime minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, already has his hands full in foreign affairs. Turkey summoned a senior U.S. diplomat Monday over a media report that the U.S. spied on Turkey. German magazine Der Spiegel wrote on its website that the U.S. National Security Agency and Britain's Government Communications Headquarters intelligence agency had carried out "wide-scale spying." The article cites documents from the archive of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. The article also revealed a long-established U.S. intelligence presence in Turkey. Additionally, Der Spiegel reported that U.S. intelligence services had worked closely with Turkey in its conflict with Kurdish militants. The report comes weeks after the magazine said that Germany's intelligence agency also had been spying on Turkey.
