With a 14-count indictment looming, the fate of former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, is now up to a jury. The two are accused of accepting $177,000 in loans and gifts from this man, businessman Jonnie Williams, in exchange for promoting his dietary company. Defense attorneys have argued that the couple's marriage had been so frayed - with the pair barely speaking - that they could not have conspired with Williams. If convicted, the McDonnells could be sentenced to 20 years in prison and made to pay hefty fines.
