Indian artists create replica of historic Taj Mahal using silver and gold

An exact model of the Taj Mahal is created and costs millions. Sasha Salama reports.

THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL India's most famous monument now has a miniature version. 35 craftsmen worked for the past three years to build an exact replica of the Taj Mahal in the central Indian city of Bhopal. It's a dream come true for the businessman behind the project, Syed Hanif. (SOUNDBITE) (Hindi) DIRECTOR, STAR GEMS, SYED HANIF, SAYING: "We have used 400 kilograms of pure silver and 10 kilograms of gold. There are 32 doors, 25 vases, and outside railing, which are made of gold. We are embedding two diamonds of two karats on every door, so we have put total of eight diamonds." The mini Taj Mahal cost nearly 11 and a-half million pounds (nearly $19 million US) to create. The original was built more than 360 years ago by an Indian emperor as a mausoleum for his wife.
