A kidnapping investigation is underway in Estonia where officials say a security officer was abducted across the border to Russia. Officials say the officer was taken at gunpoint during an operation to stop an illegal border crossing. In recent years the border has seen a number of incidents involving smuggling, illegal migration, and weapons trafficking. In this incident, unidentified abductors jammed radio communications and used a smoke grenade. Security officials say preliminary information does not suggest the abduction was political.
