It's been dubbed "bendgate" and it could be a public relations crisis for Apple. Some iPhone 6 Plus buyers say they've discovered an unexpected quirk in their new phones - they bend when placed in back pockets. Some prospective buyers aren't happy. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CONSUMER, SAM GIBSON, SAYING: " I don't want a phone that's going to be breakable or bending." (SOUNDBITE) (English) CONSUMER, MARK HENNLEY, SAYING: "If those reports are true for Apple then it's a show stopper for me to upgrade cos I've got a 4s so considering upgrading to their phone otherwise I'd go to a competitor like Samsung." Shara Tibken, from technology and consumer electronics website CNET, says demand for better looking phones could be to blame. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHARA TIBKEN, SENIOR WRITER, CNET, SAYING: "There's always a push to make devices thinner and lighter, and that also comes with its own challenges. There are a lot of trade-offs when you try to make something as thin as possible, with Apple the materials they used are premium materials, but in the quest to make it thinner and lighter, it also made it more flexible." Apple is yet to comment so it's unclear what the tech giant will do to correct the issue. A recall though is unlikely but Apple may have to issue free cases to protect the phone. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHARA TIBKEN, SENIOR WRITER, CNET, SAYING: "This is definitely going to be an issue for Apple if this becomes really widespread. If we're seeing a ton of people whose phones are bending when they're putting it in their front pocket, this could definitely become a major issue and a major concern. These are very expensive devices and you expect them to hold up for at least two years, which is the term of the cell contracts in the U.S." At the beginning of the week Apple said it had already shipped 10 million units of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. But there could be more trouble ahead. It's investigating an issue with an update of its iOS 8 operating system. Apple has apologised after some new phone owners were unable to make or receive calls.
