ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Republican Tom Cotton, a first-term congressman and Iraq war veteran, ousted Democratic Senator Mark Pryor from the U.S. Senate in Tuesday's (Nov. 4) midterm elections. "Throughout this campaign, Arkansans have told me, they're ready for America to again be a great, strong, prosperous country ," Cotton said during his victory speech. "We reject the pessimism and defeatism inherent in the other way of governing, the centralizing and bureaucratic rule of presumed elites." His party needs to gain a total of six seats in order to take control of the 100-member chamber for the first time since the 2006 election. During the campaign, Cotton cast Pryor as an ally of unpopular Democratic President Barack Obama.
