EDITORS PLEASE NOTE - RESENDING SCRIPT WITH CORRECTED RESTRICTIONS A big victory for proponents of legal marijuana. Voters in Oregon, Alaska, and Washington D.C. voted to legalize pot. SOUNDBITE: ANTHONY JOHNSON, MARIJUANA ACTIVIST, SAYING: "We won this election tonight due to many people in this room, many people across the state, many people across the country, many people who are no longer with us." The "Yes" votes in Oregon and Alaska would make it legal to use marijuana for recreational purposes. It also paves the way for a network of retail pot shops similar to those operating in Washington state and Colorado. In Washington D.C., voters passed a measure to legalize marijuana possession but not retail sales. The key victories come as opinions have shifted on pot use, but opponents vow to fight on before the measures become law.
