Al Qaeda's North African arm has released Serge Lazarevic, a 50-year-old Frenchman who was kidnapped three years ago. Gavino Garay reports.

Frenchman Serge Lazarevic is a free man three years after being being taken prisoner by al Qaeda militants in Northern Africa. The 50-year-old who authorities say is an engineer was France's last hostage abroad. Lazarevic spoke to reporters on Tuesday. (SOUNDBITE) (French) FORMER HOSTAGE, SERGE LAZAREVIC, SAYING: "I would like to thank the president of Niger, who is here, and I would like to thank the people of Niger as well, who collaborated with France for my release." But questions remain about how France secured his freedom, including a reported prisoner swap and possible ransom payment.
