A severe blizzard wreaks havoc on the roads of Romania. This bus carrying 33 passengers tipped over near the town of Buzau, all of its passengers had to be rescued by emergency workers. The country issued a code red blizzard warning for three counties which recorded winds of 90 kilometers, or 56 miles per hour and near-zero visibility. (SOUNDBITE) (Romanian) ANONYMOUS DRIVER SAYING: "It is horrible, the blizzard is so strong that you can not see more then one meter ahead. We wanted to go to Predeal but in the end we turned back." A major highway between capital Bucharest and city-port Constanta has been closed on Monday, along with many local and national roads, frustrating travellers in the run-up to New Year's Eve. (SOUNDBITE) (Romanian) ANONYMOUS LOCAL RESIDENT SAYING: "We walked [because the road is closed] for seven kilometers." This severe winter storm came directly on the heels of the warmest Christmas recorded for Romania in the past 50 years. Other parts of Europe experienced heavy snowfall as well including France, Germany and the UK.
