Chad army in clashes with Boko Haram - footage

Television footage shows clashes between Chad's army and Boko Haram militants in northern Nigeria that has left more than 200 of the Islamic group's fighters dead. Nathan Frandino reports.

--STORY CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGES -- Nigeria's army has struggled to contain the violent Boko Haram Islamist group.. But here, soldiers from Chad's army say they have them on the run. According to Chad TV, this mission in Nigeria's northeast turned deadly. The army and state TV say fighting killed more than 200 militants and just nine Chadian soldiers. They say soldiers also destroyed more than a dozen vehicles with heavy weapons and some 100 motorcycles...then saw for themselves the aftermath of what Boko Haram had been doing in the area. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED ARMY OFFICER, SAYING: "It is not Godly, what they were doing. You can't slaughter humans like animals. They were putting their knives here at the back of the neck. This is the first time I've encountered something like this." Boko Haram has been fighting since 2009 to create an Islamist emirate in northern Nigeria. They killed an estimated 10,000 people last year and despite the occasional setback, continue to rampage through the country, largely unopposed.
