Dramatic video from the Italian coast guard shows a rescue at sea off the Libyan coast. These are just some of the nearly 700 migrants plucked from overcrowded boats and dinghy's on Friday -- days after more than 300 others just like them lost their lives trying to make the crossing to Europe. At last, on Saturday, the 275 rescued migrants are brought to dry land in Sicily. The 300 who didn't get this far perished trying to cross from North Africa to Italy on stormy seas this week. The U.N. says close to 220,000 migrants crossed the Mediterranean by boat last year -- among them, 3,500 died trying. Italy shut down its search and rescue operations in these waters in October, focussing instead on a more limited European Union mission for border control. But this week's deaths has renewed focus on that EU mission which doesn't have a specific search and rescue mandate. One of the migrants kisses the ground before boarding a bus that will take him away. One harrowing journey has ended ... another journey into the unknown has only begun.
