ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Barack Obama met with a group of superintendents and leaders of the Council of the Great City Schools at the White House, Monday (March 16), with the goal of strengthening education for all students in city schools. "We've got a major debate taking place about the reauthorization of the major education act that shapes federal policy toward our schools," said Obama, referring to the "Elementary and Secondary Education Act." The president says successes are obvious with improved reading and math scores as well as graduation rates, but more needs to be done. "There are a set of principles reflected in my budget and I hope will be reflected in the Republican budget. But if it is not, we're going to have to have a major debate. We are making too much progress now," Obama said.
