Hillary Clinton is no stranger to controversy. A federal investigation. A sex scandal. Accusations of cover-up. All of it played out before a global audience. The latest scandal --- her decision to use her personal email to handle official state department business. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HILLARY CLINTON, SAYING: "Looking back, it would've been better if I'd simply used a second email account and carried a second phone, but at the time, this didn't seem like an issue." Republicans subpeonaed the former Secretary of State's emails from her time in office and say she's been deliberatively secretive about Benghazi. The deadly attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya has been a hot button issue for Republicans who accused the Obama administration of incompetence and cover-up. They launched a congressional investigation. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HILLARY CLINTON, SAYING: "The fact is we had four dead Americans, whether it was because of a protest or because there was some guys who went out for a walk one night and decided they wanted to go kill some Americans. What difference at this point does this make? It is our job to figure out what happened and to everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again." While the House intelligence report ordered by Republicans found "no evidence" supporting a cover-up or claims the U.S. downgraded security before the attack, Clinton's rivals return to the issue routinely RAND PAUL COMMERCIAL REPUBLICAN COMMERCIAL Controversies like Whitewater and Monica Lewinsky have dogged the Clintons since her husband Bill Clinton's presidency. In 1996, Clinton earned the distinction of becoming the only First Lady called to testify before a federal grand jury over the couple's real investments. Bill Clinton's affair with intern Monica Lewinsky and the cover up resulted his impeachment and tension at home The 2008 primary saw Democrats eager to distance themselves from the scandal plagued couple. Asked about polls showing Barack Obama chipping away at her lead, Clinton had this to say. SOUNDBITE: Hillary Clinton saying: "Some people think elections are a game; they think it's who is up and who is down. It's about our country. It's about our kids' futures. It's really about all of us together. Some of us put ourselves out there and do this against some pretty difficult odds." New Hampshire voters rewarded Clinton's show of vulnerability with a primary win but she ultimately lost her party's nomination --- a humiliating defeat --- played out like so many events in her life, with the entire world watching. Later this week, Clinton returns to the campaign trail to begin her second attempt at the White House.
