A show of support in Paris for the migrants who have died seeking a better life on European shores. They have a message for European leaders. Some are migrants themselves. (SOUNDBITE) (French) MIGRANT FROM IVORY COAST, MORY, SAYING: "We are here to show support and pay tribute to the families and all those who remain at sea, who fled their countries because of conflict and war in those countries. We are also migrants, who came that way, by sea and today we are in France." With as many as 700 migrants feared dead off the Libyan coast, they light candles and hold flowers. Similar scenes in Vienna, where thousands gather to pay respect to those who have died. (SOUNDBITE) (German) PROTESTER, JUDIT MATHE-HUEINIG, SAYING: "I think we have to clearly show our solidarity with the people who are fleeing and who have endured horrible things. Many have died. You cannot just go back to your normal daily activities. A strong, symbolic message is needed and also political measures to prevent tragedies like this happening again." The massive death toll has shocked Europe, where a decision to scale back naval operations last year seems to have increased the risks for migrants without reducing their numbers.
