The aliens are back! "Independence Day 2" to start filming

Nearly 20 years since the box office hit was released, production on the sequel to sci-fi action blockbuster ''Independence Day'' is underway, according to U.S. teenage actress Joey King, who posted a picture of herself on Twitter with film director Roland Emmerich. Joel Flynn reports.

It's been 20 years since Bill Pullman announced "Independence Day" as the world stopped an alien invasion. But two decades on it's now time for director Roland Emmerich to show audiences what happened next. The sequel to the eponymous Oscar-winning 1996 movie began filming this week. That's according to a picture posted on social media by U.S. actress Joey King with the Hollywood director. Emmerich himself reposted the photo on his Facebook and Twitter pages. It comes just days after he announced Judd Hirsch would be reprising his role. Many fans will be also be excited at the prospect of former fictional President Bill Pullman returning. Disappointment for other though with Will Smith looking unlikely to join them. Producers and studios however might be more interested in the numbers. "Independence Day" grossed $820 million at the worldwide box office.
