ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Cossacks from around the world traveled to Russia's Rostov-on-Don over the weekend to take part in the 10th annual festival dedicated to Saint George the Victorious. The Cossack Games, or 'Shermitsii' as locals call it, is a traditional Cossack contest where participants get a chance to show off their skills in archery, darts and staff battles. More experienced Cossacks competed in fist fighting, swordsmanship and displayed their horse riding skills. The event draws scores of Cossacks from Russia's Kuban, Don and the Urals. This year's games were especially interesting as members of the Cossack community came from the United States, Canada and Europe. Organizers of the festival say its aim is to preserve culture and pass on traditions to the next generation. The festival closed with a gala concert of folk choirs and a theater performance.
