The overriding theme this season: high-fuel reboots and sequels of former hit flicks. Hollywood is banking that revisiting the tried and true will mark a real turnaround from 2014, a bet Rentrak's Paul Dergarabedian thinks will pay off. SOUNDBITE: PAUL DERGARABEDIAN, SENIOR MEDIA ANALYST, RENTRAK (ENGLISH) SAYING: "Last summer was kind of a bummer. By the end of that summer 2014, we were down 14.6 percent versus the previous summer of 2013, which was a record breaker. But now fast forward to 2015. It looks like we could be sitting on top of what could become the biggest summer of all time." The summer season has already officially kicked off with, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which is in its second week domestically starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson - their characters reuniting to battle the evil robot Ultron played by James Spader. As of this weekend the film has grossed nearly $313 million in the U.S., more than $875 million worldwide, a promising start for the season. It's also a good example of how Hollywood will be able to lure people away from computers and video-on-demand. SOUNDBITE: PAUL DERGARABEDIAN, SENIOR MEDIA ANALYST, RENTRAK (ENGLISH) SAYING: "There's still nothing like that outside the home experience in a movie theater, that communal environment that 50-foot wide screen and just the impact and the immersiveness that that experience has and you cant replicate it anywhere else." Another blast from the past: Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation". Dinosaurs are returning to the theatre in "Jurassic World" starring Chris Pratt. On the lighter side of revisiting characters we already know, "Despicable Me's" little yellow guys resurface in "Minions". And potentially one of the biggest comedy hits, given its initial draw: "Pitch Perfect Two" debuts later this week.
