REUTERS IS UNABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY VERIFY THE CONTENT OF THIS VIDEO, WHICH HAS BEEN OBTAINED FROM A SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE A video posted online purports to show Islamic State fighters inside a gas pumping station east of Palmyra. The footage, which cannot be independently verified by Reuters, shows fighters around combing the facility. Some tear down the posters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his late father and former president Hafez al-Assad. All this as Islamic State declares full control over Palmyra-an ancient city that is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site-It's the first time the extremist group has seized a city directly from Assad's forces. The fall of this ancient city comes just days after Islamic State took the city of Ramadi, in neighboring Iraq- posing a setback for U.S.-led coalition forces in their fight against the extremists and raising questions about a U.S. strategy of relying almost exclusively on air strikes to support the fight against Islamic State.
