Victims of Srebrenica massacre laid to rest after 20 years

The remains of 136 people killed during the massacre at Srebrenica 20 years ago are laid to rest, as Bosnian Muslims prepare to mark the anniversary. Diane Hodges reports.

Twenty years after they were killed, these men and boys going, at last, to their final resting place. They're among the estimated eight-thousand Muslims who were killed after Srebrenica fell to Bosnian Serb forces on July 11, 1995. But the remains of these 136 victims were identified only recently. (UPSOT OF ZIJADA HAJDAREVIC) This woman says she has already buried her grandfather, her sister's husband, her husband's brothers, and their children. Now, she is preparing to bury her own brother. Eighteen of these bodies are those of boys who were only 16-years-old. They join the estimated 440 underage victims of the massacre. The services come as Bosnia prepares to mark the 20th anniversary of the slayings, Europe's worst mass killing since World War Two. Bodies are still being recovered in the forests around, what had been declared a United Nations "safe haven" for refugees from the Bosnian civil war. Their identification brings an end to uncertainty for families of the victims. But not to the grief at their loss.
