ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) The Justice Department said Friday (July 24) it has received a request to examine the handling of classified information related to the private emails from Hillary Clinton during her time as secretary of state, but it is not a criminal referral. The department's statement followed a report by the New York Times that Justice Department officials had received a request to open a criminal investigation into the Clinton emails. While speaking at New York University on the economy, Clinton said "maybe the heat is getting to everybody" in response to the report by the New York Times. "First I want to say a word about what's in the news today. And it's because there has been a lot of inaccuracies as congressman Cummings made clear this morning. Maybe the heat is getting to everybody. We all have a responsibility to get this right. I have released 55,000 pages of emails. I have said repeatedly I will answer questions before the the House committee. We are all accountable to the American people to get the facts right. And I will do my part," Clinton said. A separate memo disclosed Friday from government inspector generals expressed concern about how the emails were being handled as they were prepared for release to the public.
