ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL WHICH WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS EDITED KRT MATERIAL North Korea's state media on Saturday (July 25) broadcast video footage showing soldiers holding a massive outdoor rally to mark the upcoming 62nd anniversary of the Korean armistice. The North's state-run television KRT showed thousands of soldiers gathering in front of the Monument to the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War on Friday (July 24). The North's official news agency KCNA said the North Korean Director of the General Political Bureau of the Korean People's Army, Hwang Pyong So and the North Korean Minister of the People's Armed Forces, Pak Yong Sik attended the rally. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was not present. The armistice, signed on July 27 in 1953, halted fighting between U.S-led U.N forces backing South Korea and Communist Chinese and North Korean troops. The truce has never been converted into a peace treaty, leaving the two Koreans in a technical state of war.
