A change of heart for the Boy Scouts of America. Today's announcement formalizes a decision made on July 13, to include gay adults A "sea of change in the law with respect to gay rights," the organization says, is the leading argument behind a push to end its ban on gay youth leaders. In 2013, the Texas-based group moved to allow gay youth to participate in its activities preparing them for life and leadership.. but its ban on gay adults remained in effect. Former U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates, now Boy Scouts' president, says the ban is "unsustainable." The change in policy comes on the heels of a historic decision by the U.S. supreme court to allow same-sex marriages nationwide. For LGBT activists, the Boys Scouts decision is another signficant step forward.
