Migrants make tough sea journey to uncertain future in Europe

After being rescued from a rubber boat in the Mediterranean, hundreds of African migrants continue their strenuous journey aboard a Médecins Sans Frontières vessel, toward an uncertain future in Europe. Jillian Kitchener reports.

Their future remains uncertain but their faith remains strong. These migrants, along with some two hundred more, were plucked from a rubber boat in these Mediterranean waters. ... what has become the world's most deadly border area for migrants. But their journey continues on a more rugged vessel. The Bourbon Argos, steered by aid workers from Medecins Sans Frontieres, is transporting them to a port in western Sicily. Beyond that, its anyone's guess what exactly their future will hold. But many of the migrants say, they were running out of options back home: (SOUNDBITE) (English) NIGERIAN MIGRANT SAYING: "I left Nigeria because of the crisis of Boko Haram. People, everybody knows about Boko Haram and their preys. I lost my family, my house was burning to ashes so that is the reason I took a ship to Libya and from Libya I decided to ship to Italy." A new perspective -- a new life -- is what they say they need. Stepping out onto Italy that is exactly what they hope to get.
