Hiring binge at Chipotle. The upscale burrito chain plans to sign up 4,000 workers in one day. The Wall Street Journal reports that most of Chipotle's 1900 restaurants will open three hours earlier than usual on September 9 to interview candidates. It's a sign of the tightening labor market for the restaurant sector.. Chipotle already lists more than 2000 jobs on its website. Restaurants have been raising wages and boosting benefits so it can lure and retain workers. McDonald's, which hiked pay in July, covers the online costs for employees earning a high-school diploma. Wedbush analyst Nick Setyan, who hiked Chipotle's price target Monday partly based on its successful recent marketing campaign, said the hiring move "will be positive from both a press and marketing standpoint, and it'll help them find qualified candidates." The Journal says Chipotle typically pays over $10 a hour, but a few can rise to managerial posts with six-figure salaries.
