Alaska's Mount McKinley is about to be renamed... as Denali. President Obama is set to officially restore the name of North America's tallest mountain -- a move that sides with Alaska natives in ending a 40-year battle. (SOUNDBITE) (English) GWICH-IN COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL BOARD MEMBER, EVON PETER, SAYING: "It's a reflection of really acknowledging the value of the culture of the people of Alaska, you know, the first peoples of Alaska." In 1975, the state of Alaska officially named the peak Denali, meaning "The High One" and has been pressing the federal government to do the same. But Alaskans have been continually blocked in Congress by Ohio politicians, who wanted to stick with McKinley as a lasting tribute to the 25th U.S. president. This official name change is part of Obama's three-day trip to Alaska, where he's slated to tour a receding glacier and meet indigenous groups in remote Arctic communities, bringing the broader issue of climate change back to the top of his agenda.
