BMW chief faints on stage

German luxury carmaker BMW's new chief executive, Harald Krueger, fainted on stage at the Frankfurt auto show on Tuesday. As David Pollard reports, it was his first appearence at a major auto show.

Glamour enough to make one swoon - as the world's top-selling luxury car maker headlines at the Frankfurt auto show. And that's exactly what happened to BMW's new chief executive. Harald Krueger was making his first appearance at a major auto show - when overcome by dizziness. BMW brought proceedings to a halt. SOUNDBITE (German) BMW spokesman telling audience, saying: "I'm a bit lost for words but that doesn't help. We hope it's nothing serious." Krueger was later said to be recovering well. The 49-year-old chief exec took the wheel at BMW in May - amid a slowing Chinese economy and the threat posed by new technology companies to its market lead. One onlooker saying: 'It's tough at the top - you clearly need a head for heights.''
