Groups of migrants have been crossing Serbia's border into Croatia on foot all night. Croatia's closure of most border crossing points between the two on Thursday's failed to deter them. Croatian police have struggled to cope this week as around 11, 000 migrants swept into the country. They were looking for new ways to reach Western Europe after Hungary closed its border with Serbia earlier in the week. Most are seeking to resume their journey west through Slovenia which is a member of the European Union's passport-free zone. Croatian authorities have been shuttling some of the arriving migrants to reception centres near Zagreb although many have evaded the country's overwhelmed police. Buses were used to take them from the border town of Tovarnik. But boarding priority for women, children and the sick has meant some family members are being separated. The European Union's called an emergency meeting for next week in the hope of overcoming its disarray over how to handle the growing tide of migrants and refugees.
