Pope Francis quickly got down to business as he became the first pontiff to address a joint meeting of Congress in the U.S. He praised business as "the spirit of enterprise" but argued that it must work for the common good by creating jobs and prosperity. (SOUNDBITE) POPE FRANCIS (ENGLISH) SAYING: "'Business is a noble vocation, directed to producing wealth and improving the world." But he stressed the need to create an economy that shares that wealth and protects the environment. (SOUNDBITE) POPE FRANCIS (ENGLISH) SAYING: "The right use of natural resources, the proper application of technology and the harnessing of the spirit of enterprise are essential elements of an economy which seeks to be modern, inclusive and sustainable." The pope, a frequent critic of the excesses of capitalism, later left the Capitol for the financial capital, New York City.
