Tsipras: Greece must stick to program to exit bailout

Greece's recently re-elected Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras calls for the swift implementation of the bailout program he signed in July, as a new parliament is sworn in. Vanessa Johnston reports.

A new parliament and a fresh start for Greece's recently re-elected prime minister, Alexis Tsipras... (SOUNDBITE) (Greek) GREEK PRIME MINISTER, ALEXIS TSIPRAS, SAYING: "We are not walking on clouds, but I think we deserve to feel happy, to feel vindicated, with the people's choice." Speaking to lawmakers of his leftist Syriza party, Tsipras says Greece must implement its bailout program fast...but warns it won't be easy. (SOUNDBITE) (Greek) GREEK PRIME MINISTER, ALEXIS TSIPRAS, SAYING: "We are forced to make decisions that are unpleasant and difficult, but we will make them, always telling the truth to the Greek people, and explaining that this path is a necessary one so that we can exit this system of supervision as soon as possible..." Supervision by international creditors who are demanding a slew of reforms -- from taxation, to pensions, healthcare, and more -- by November 15th. Tsipras says he plans to complete the first review of the 86 billion euro bailout program as soon as possible. The next step: opening negotiations with its euro zone partners on debt relief.
