Thousands of migrants and refugees have landed on Greece's shores after a dangerous sea crossing. But it's emerged one of the main gateways to the European Union was being exploited by a criminal gang charging $3, 400 for fake asylum registration documents. Police have arrested 12 people from Pakistan, Egypt, Iraq and Syria after a series of raids in Athens. Officers have seized hundreds of fake identity cards, passports and other documents. Investigators said the gang was divided into six units helping migrants reach Greece from Turkey, then move on to Macedonia and Italy. Greek authorities say it's one of their biggest operations yet against people smugglers. The United Nations says almost 400, 000 migrants have arrived this year alone in Greece, a country already struggling with its worst economic crisis in decades.
