Meryl Streep to head 2016 Berlin film festival jury

Academy Award winner Meryl Streep says she's looking forward to first film festival jury role at upcoming Berlinale. Ivor Bennett reports.

After nearly 40 years in the movies, Meryl Streep will finally be able to judge them. The three-time Academy Award Winner will be jury president for the 66th Berlin International Film Festival opening in February, organisers said on Wednesday. Streep, who has never served on a film festival jury before, said in a statement that the task was "somewhat daunting" but that she was "grateful for the honour." The 'Suffragette' actress is no stranger to the prestigious Berlinale, however -- In 2003 she shared the Silver Bear award with Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman for their performances in 'The Hours', And in 2012, the film festival gave her a lifetime achievement award and screened a selection of her films. The Berlinale, one of Europe's main showcases for film, opens on February 11, 2016.
