It's official -- Representative Paul Ryan is running for speaker of the House. Earlier in the week, Ryan had said he would only run if he could win the backing of his divided party colleagues. SOT: REP. PAUL RYAN, SAYING: "We, as a conference, should unify now and not after a divisive speaker election." The Wisconsin representative has been meeting with conservatives this week, laying out his vision of what the party needs to do. Some of them didn't quite know what to make of what they heard. SOT: CONGRESSMAN TIM HUELSKAMP OF KANSAS, SAYING: "There were a list of some pretty strong demands." But the approach appears to have worked. On Thursday afternoon, Ryan sent a letter to fellow lawmakers saying that he believed the party is now what he called, a "united team." And that he is now "ready and eager" to be the next speaker. The House is scheduled to vote October 29.
