Flash floods and anger in Alexandria

Torrential rain lashed down in Alexandria Sunday producing flash floods, leaving homes and streets submerged in water, and residents furious over lack of response. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Flash floods swamp Alexandria Sunday, leaving streets and houses under water. Some residents see it as an opportunity. Others are furious. (SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) RESIDENT, MOHAMED DARWISH , SAYING: "Since morning I have been calling the police, the control room and the fire brigade, no one is answering. My name is Mohamed Darwish. I'm calling on the governor. I'm calling everyone. No one is answering." At least five people were killed in the downpour. Alexandria's governor was forced to resign amid the criticism. A statement released from the Egyptian President's office Monday said that the strategy to handle pre-emptive crises in the country needs to change.
