Books within bricks: Amazon's going offline. The online retailing giant opened its first physical store in Seattle on Tuesday. But Amazon Books is a bricks-and-mortar extension of Amazon.com, for it will sell books based on customer ratings and pre-orders on the website. The company says it'll charge the same prices in-store as it does online. The store will also house Amazon devices such as the Kindle, Echo, Fire TV and Fire Tablet. It alows customers to test drive the products with Amazon experts on hand to answer questions. This isn't Amazon's first venture into stores. It has opened pop-up stores in the past to sell its Kindle devices. And the Seattle Times says it's been replacing bookstores on college campuses with pickup locations. BGC Partners analyst Colin Gillis says the store is a nice tribute to Amazon's root as a bookstore, but don't expect it to impact Amazon's top line. Amazon did not respond to calls for comment..
