Brazil dam burst buries town

Rescue teams are desperately searching for survivors after an iron ore tailings dam burst in Brazil's Minas Gerais state, killing at least two people. Rob Muir reports.

They were among the lucky ones...survivors of devastating mudslides triggered by a dam collapse near the town of Mariana in eastern Brazil. Rescuers worked through the night searching for the dead and injured. Dozens of people are still missing. The dam was owned by multinational mining companies Vale and BHP Biliton. It was used to hold mining waste from the Germano iron ore mine nearby. By early morning, rescue teams had confirmed two deaths and 30 injuries. But with roads closed and communications knocked out, they say the toll is likely to rise. Mine officials say the cause of the disaster is under investigation.
