Amazon is jump starting its holiday sales drive. The online retailer will offer huge deals starting this Friday. That's one week before Black Friday, the day after the Thanksgiving holiday when retailers typically offer deep discounts on select items to lure holiday shoppers. Among the steals: a forty inch LED TV for $145 and Jawbone's fitness tracker UP3 for $99. In an attempt to keep customers coming back to its site, Amazon will dole out the deals as often as every five minutes over eight straight days. That doesn't mean shoppers have to stay glued to the screen. This year, its "Watch A Deal" feature on its mobile shopping app will notify shoppers when the deal they're interested in is offered. To further plug that app, Amazon is offering over 150 limited time, limited quantity Lightning Deals only through the app starting Thanksgiving. Retailers have been in arms race since the recession to open earlier on Black Friday, and some even open on Thanksgiving. But recently, a few retailers have taken a stand. REI will close its stores on Black Friday so employees can take the day off.
